Happy Easter!

Happy Easter from my precious baby girl! We enjoyed a day celebrating Christ's resurrection. Daddy got up early and made us (Mommy) monkey bread and coffee. It was sooo sweet. We went to church, went to lunch at Tim & Nancy's -where Daddy and Harper slept for almost 3 hours (you'd think Daddy got up to nurse you in the middle of the night... nope!) - and then dinner at Ken & Cindy's house. Harper wore a dress from Baby Gap and head band from etsy.com. Mommy had a matching headband. I think this is the extent Mommy will ever go to "match" her little girl. It's just too cheesy.

Three Months!

· Visiting FIVE more hospitals at MUCH too young of age – Fairview Ridges, Fairview Southdale (where you were born), Regency Hospital and Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute at Abbott Northwestern Hospital since Papa had his stroke . And finally, spending three days in Children’s Hospital with RSV you caught from Hanky Panky being at Ridges or Southdale. Mommy returned to work, only to skip two days to lounge take care of you in the hospital. Mommy thinks you just wanted to keep Henry and Auntie Cari company so they weren’t lonely. At least we had a good view of Downtown, right? Mommy, Daddy and Auntie Cari were truly blessed by the Ronald McDonald House. It was a place of refuge and peace while we were in the hospital… it made our stay much easier and help since we were feeling bad about “ditching” Nana while Papa was in the hospital.

· You’ve learned to sing with Daddy and Mommy. You prefer Daddy’s voice, which makes Mommy wonder if you are tone deaf know you are Daddy’s girl!

· Laughing! You love to smile, but you also LOVE to laugh. It’s the CUTEST little sound. You’ve begun to enjoy being tickled or given strawberries on your nakey tummy.

· You are talking to your toys. Your favorite toys are the zebras on your swing’s mobile and tray. Daddy bought you a stuffed Zebra when he took you to Babies R Us because you love them so much. You’ve also begun to reach out to grab things. You like the birdy on your carseat. You enjoy hanging on to the foot, pulling and letting it retract back. The shakey feeling brings a smile to your face.

· The boob. You now recognize the boob (or a bottle) and get excited to eat! Daddy is teaching you sign language while he is home with you. Eat. Milk. More. Drink. and such… He is also attempting to teach you to hold your own bottle overachiever!

· Your first April Fool’s Day! We pranked Daddy with the good ‘ol rubberand around the sink faucet trick! He TOTALLY tried to play it off like nothing happened… but we were cracking up in the other room when we heard him get soaking wet! Next year will be even better!

·

Playing footsie with Jayden Fleig… Mommy and Ms. Rachel did plan an arranged marriage, but you have got to tone down that adorable flirty look you give him! You also are quite enamored with his dad, Jordan. Whenever Jordan is around you study his every move and word, because he’s quite animated. J

· Pooping through! Oh child of mine, how often you do this is ridiculous. You’re a lady, don’t you know?! Uncle Kyle held you during the past month while Daddy did dishes and you instantly pooped!

· Looking at yourself! You finally have found your face (and others) in the mirror. You smiled at yourself for the first time on Sunday, March 25. It was absolutely adorable.

· Peek-a-boo! You’ve started to giggle while playing peek-a-boo. For so long your response was a look of hesitancy or slight apprehension (I think due to either your face being covered, or Mommy/Daddy disappearing). Now, it’s turned into a look of excitement and anticipation!

· First day of “Day Care” with Auntie Cari and your cousins! Oh, child of mine… how this broke Mommy’s heart. I was sad to see you enjoy a wonderful (weather and life-wise) day with them, while I went to work. I might have shed a single tear(s). But, I am beyond thankful for a good, healthy place for you to grow and learn. Jackson and Emilie dote on you with entertainment, care and love. Poor Hanky, he might get a little neglected by his siblings when you’re around. Claire is ever the doting older cousin, informing anyone who is around exactly where you or Henry are at any time. Emilie has grown fond of reassuring you when you might cry or beg for attention, “It’s ok Harper. It’s because you’re an only child.” Ahem. Thank you, Cari.

· First St. Patty’s Day and you got dressed up fancy for it!

· First time wearing sunglasses, which you seemed slightly afraid of until Mommy put hers on and showed you + you didn’t like the sun in your eyes. Now, you’re a pro at them (unless you’re very tired).

· Frist time(s) outside without being completely suffocated covered by the Bundle Me, blankets or hats! (Daddy says Mommy over heats you… better than freezing you, right?) You had a two hour walk St. Patty’s weekend. You saw the trees! It was such a fun thing to see the world through your eyes… the trees, the wind, Sasha running, birds flying about and ducks landing on the pond. You take it all in.

· Napping with Mommy. You’ve begun to relish our lazy Sunday afternoon naps. Mommy adores this time with you too. You’d sleep for days if we are cuddled up together. I can’t even begin to express how much this makes my heart sing. I love your little hands wrapped around me, searching for me to reassure yourself that I’m still there. When you wake to find me lying beside you, your smile could fly a kite! It’s so overjoyed and full to appreciation. I appreciate you too, love.

· Hugging! Oh. My. Heart-melting-moment. You gave me your first true hug! You wrapped your arm around my neck the other night. You were getting sleepy and had finally laid you head upon my shoulder. The next thing I knew, your little hand came around my neck and held on tightly. Little Harper hugs, oh they make me happy.

· You are a running machine! You love to kick and rock those cute little legs for a long time! If you are lying on your changing table, chilling, lookin up at your mobile, you’ll begin this little dance with your arms and legs. You giggle and pump your legs up and down and up and down… it’s so fun. You get yourself all worn out and sleepy. You’ll see from your three month picture, you were dancing there… so much so, that you began to tip over!

· Frist time wearing legwarmers! Auntie Mandy bought you the cutest giraffe legwarmers, a la 1980!, and you wore them to church.

I am so thankful for you, Harper Kendall. You have rocked my world, turned it upside down and brought such joy to my life. I am proud to be your Mum. I only pray I can live up to what God requires for your upbringing. It is a joy to share you with Daddy, even if I get jealous miss you during the day while you hang out with him. I love him more for his compassion, care and adoration for you. I wish I could tell the whole world how amazing you are. You are happy, silly, smart and oh so beautiful. Thankfully, you’ve begun to look more like me. ;) hehe. I am excited to see you continue to learn and grow. I appreciate your zest for everything you do – whether it be playing, pooping or eating. Everything is done in earnest. It makes me appreciate the day-to-day so much more. I live to come home and be with you and Daddy. I enjoy our every moment together. I’m trying to remember to be “in the moment” and not take any second forgranted. You’ll be grownup before I know it. Time seems to disappear before our eyes yet hold on to your every movement. I wish I could bundle this time up with you to save it for later. I love you. To the moon and back. Always and forever. I call you are healthy, whole, wise and happy.

What's in your diaper bag?

Bag: JJ Cole System 180 Diaper Bag

This bag is water resistant, so I can wipe it clean at any time. It also comes with stroller attachment straps, a pacifier pod and a changing pad. The changing pad is one of the amazing parts. You can toss in a diaper (or a few) with the wipes and take that to-go, or with you to a public restroom to change the baby instead of lugging your entire diaper bag. Let me brag about the stroller attachments – such a great space saving idea. It’s really great to hook your bag on (have access to it) and still have space in your basket below the baby to stash your mall purchases, err umm, your coat?

Change of Outfit(s) Harper is a pro at pooping through! Good poops doll, good poops! I usually carry at least two outfits in the diaper bags at all times. Let me tell you, I’ve used both (while being at the hospital with my dad) due to pooping through! One of my favorite outfits for her to wear is: Gap Kids Skinny Jeans and Ralph Lauren Pink Polo shirt because it’s oh-so-cute and she looks good in pink like her mama. Converse Chuck Taylor Crib Sneakers

Mommy Essentials I’ve found that slimming down from a large wallet to my Coach Mini-Skinny has saved me in switching from my purse for work to the diaper bag outside of work quick and easy. I can also grab my one and only makeup essential Clinique City Base Foundation #04 - and toss it in a side pocked of the diaper bag. Easy access and less is more when you’re carrying a baby, diaper bag, coffee, water, etc…!

Burp Cloth & Bib I’ve got a few adorable burp cloth and bib sets. They are perfect for keeping Harper clean whether she’s nursing or taking a bottle. Always have some with you just in case a spit up situation happens and you’ve used that last change of outfit!

Diapers & Wipes Target brand sensitive wipes are honestly pretty good! A wipes a wipe I say, but these are soft and clean up well. Diapers, I currently am working through our multi-size stock of Black Friday diapers, but I really like Pampers Swaddlers. I will definitely buy diapers on Black Friday again, because they were a STEAL!

Soothie pacifiers The one. The only. Soothie. Soothing it does! Harper doesn’t take a paci often, but for the first few months we’ve committed to using these so she doesn’t get nipple confusion.

Paci Pod Mine came with my diaper bag, but you can also purchase them from Target, Babies R Us, etc… This is wonderful to keep the paci clean and safe + you aren’t searching through the entire diaper bag to find the paci!

Burt's Bees Hand Sanitizer, chap stick, diaper rash cream… all of these are essentials for any parent. The hand sanitizer keeps your hands clean without drying them out. This diaper rash cream is soft and easily applied.

Gripe Water & Tri Vi Sol Vitamins Newborns aren’t so good at burping, pooping and pète (fart)… this works wonders in helping them learn those functions! We give Harper this once a day and she loooves it. Also, as a nursing mom, especially in Winter, Vitamin D is lacking for not only myself, but for Harper. My doctor suggested Tri Vi Sol multi vitamin for Harper. She likes the taste of Grip Water and doesn’t like the vitamin. But, she jokes it down quite well.

Munchkin Diaper Plastic Bag Dispenser Again, if your baby likes to poop through, these bags will save your diaper bag from becoming messy. Toss the soiled clothes into these bags to keep everything else from getting yucky. Or, if you happen to be somewhere you can’t throw a diaper away at easily, put your diaper in here to stow until you find proper garbage.

aden + anais swaddling blanket I can’t rant and rave enough about these blankets. They are thin enough your baby won’t become over heated, yet long enough to swaddle your newborn into a proper burrito. Plus, they wash up easily and hold their shape well.

Udder Cover nursing cover Love this compared to any I’ve seen! This cover has a wire/metal lining to help you keep covered, yet see your baby while their nursing)

Sophie the Giraffe teether Harper isn’t “teething” yet (thank God) but she has started to hold toys and really enjoys the Giraffe!

Avent Bottles Harper has taken to these really well and doesn’t get gassy. They are easy to clean and decently priced.

One Month!

I can't believe my little girl is a month old already! Time truly has flown by. Here are some of Harper Kendall’s feats thus far:

· sleeping 6 hours at a time!!!

· eating well (she's packing on the ounces quickly)

· lost her belly button at four days old overachiever!

· communicating (she's definitely not a crier, but only does so when she needs something). Harper made her first coo at five days old overachiever!

· smiling (my girl is one happy lady)

· first Doctor’s visit at one week. AND Harper doesn't have to go back again until 2 months! She pee’d twice and pooped once on the exam table. Daddy was so proud.

· moving (she has begun to squirm about, kick her legs and arms quite often - getting stronger! I call it "exercise" ;) hehe)

· pooping through and farting, it’s a challenge, but she's learning!

· EVERYONE says they love Harper's name… This just makes Mommy wish no one knew it, so you could be the only Harper.

· getting Daddy and Mommy wrapped around her finger

· going to TARGET!

· going to the Burnsville Mall

· going to church, being called on stage and blessed by Pastor CJ

· going to Auntie Cari & Uncle Nick's, Nana & Papa's House, Grandma & Grandpa's Houses

· getting baby-sat by Grandma & Grandpa at one week and two weeks old!! Yay Mommy! J

· Going to visit Ms. Kate and Zachary at St. Francis when he was born (Harper's exactly two weeks older).

I am so thankful for you, Harper. I couldn't imagine going through my life without you in it. I'm enjoying all we get to do and all I've learned from being your Mom so far. I pray that God would give me the strength to be a good, wise, strong Mom. I want you to know how much Daddy and I love you. We cherish our time on "Summer Vacation", as Daddy calls maternity leave, to bond and grow with you and enjoy learning who you are. I pray that you are healthy, whole, wise and happy.

Harper Kendall Menz

Introducing Harper Kendall Menz!

Born January 6, 2012 at 5:46 AM

8 pounds 1 once, 20 ½ inches

Mommy labored for 8 hours and pushed for one hour. You came out sideways! Is that setting a precedent for the future? The doctor told Mommy she would have only pushed for 30 minutes had you been positioned right. Mommy's water broke around 2 PM at work eeek! She went to the doctor’s office, the hotel for work and finally home. Mommy took a shower while Daddy got everything ready. Daddy and Mommy finally got to the hospital at 5:30 PM. There was an emergency and we were brought to a delivery room instead of intake. Mommy found blood on her delivery bed YUCK! and the nurse switched it out. Daddy and Mommy walked for three, one hour periods to start Mommy’s labor. Daddy played on the iPad while Nana slept and Mommy tried to get through her contractions. Auntie Cari brought Hank to see you born. He slept until after you made your appearance! Auntie Mandy photo-documented Mommy’s labor and your delivery so Daddy could focus on being with Mommy while she pushed. Nana and Cari were great coaches as well. Mommy proudly labored and delivered you without an epidural or any pain medicine. Overachiever! You screamed bloody murder when the nurse took you from Mommy’s chest to check your vitals… until Daddy started talking to you. I believe you two fell in love at that moment.
Grandpa Ken came to visit you right after you were born. Grandma Cindy came a few hours later. Papa and Auntie Gracie came that night because Gracie had school. She was very tired because she stayed up all night to pray for Mommy and you, as you made arrival. You became the perfect baby instantly. Eating within 30 minutes of birth, sleeping long periods, cuddling up to Mommy or Daddy. You smiled at Mommy the day after you were born. Every doctor and nurse thought you were gorgeous, but Mommy already knew that. Mommy told Daddy she didn’t think she prayed hard enough because you looked like a baby version of him but cuter. Daddy changed all of your diapers in the hospital. He was a charm! (AND he cleaned our entire house when we got home!!!) Daddy and Mommy teared up when we got to bring you home from the hospital. Daddy stopped at “our” Starbucks in the Galleria… such a symbol of our life together. (Daddy bought Mommy coffee there after their first date.) Daddy’s a sweetheart, just don’t tell anyone!
You had LOTS of visitors!

Nana, Papa, Gracie

Grandpa and Grandma

Auntie Cari, Uncle Nick, Jackson, Emilie, Claire and Henry

Mandy and Austin

Tracy and Elizabeth

Anthony and Lesley

Kyle, Bailey and their nephew

Samarah and Brian

Darren and Lesley

Kate and Louis (and Zachary too)

Danny, Beka, Issak, Zakary, Madeline and Eli...

You’re popular already!

I cannot wait to begin our journey together, my love bug. You’re the best thing that has ever happened to me. I’m blessed to call you mine.

I call you healthy, whole, wise and happy.

A Want, or A Need?

Ooh my goodness. I can't decide if this is a want or a need. I feel like I need this because I really want it...I know what you're thinking, it's a girl! I know that. But Petal could totally rock this with some cute pants and a bright, pink, massive bow/headband!! Plus, she and Jeremy could wear matching shirts. I bought him this one a while ago:

Nursery - Work-In-Progress

A work in progress is DEFINITELY what the nursery is! The room is quite in shambles at the moment (ok - there's a twin be setting in the middle of the room, the closet is stuffed to the brim, the dresser and changing table are sitting in the hallway, our house is a wreck!). But I hope to get the last of the painting completed in the next day, hang pictures, get a new light, etc… and then finally put the furniture back in place. For now, it’s going to be a bit cramped with a twin bed and dresser + baby furniture (crib, changing table) in the room. But realistically, she will probably sleep in her bassinet until she is about 3-4 months and only fits in the crib.

Here’s a sneak peek. I took these last night, it was dark and it’s hard to tell the color that well. But the walls are a light grey. I hung the curtains my Grandma made up. I love how they turned out! Awesome. J
I cannot wait to get the pictures, fabric hoops, shelves, etc... hung up. I couldn't sleep last night. All I wanted to do was get up and start decorating. Absolutely ridic! But, this is the fun part! Where you finally pu the room together and see all of your ideas come into shape. I hope Petal loves how her room turns out. Because, it's been a lot of effort and thought put into it!

Updates

Ok - I know I haven't posted pictures of everything my Grandma made me. It's been a very hectic week for me. BUT, I will soon.

This weekend we're painting the nursery {finally}! I'm super excited! Although, I've begun to question my original choice of grey for the color... because it seems like EVERYONE I've talked to who is pregnant is talking about grey. I need to make up my mind. I'll chat with Jeremy and my mum about it. Hopefully we'll have a decision made ASAP so it can be painted and finished Saturday. :) I would LOVE to do one wall chalkboard paint. I just think it would be SOO fab to have a wall that is changeable and easily redecorated. Hopefully, once we’ve gotten the room painted, we can put together the crib and get everything in place. Then I will feel settled until Petal is here. I still would like a tree in the room… what do you think of this one?Our maternity photo shoot was Saturday. We had a blast! Here are a couple of the shots. I’m excited to get the rest. It was such a fun day... with beautiful weather. Especially for almost November in Minnesota!!

Couple of side notes:

-my co-worker from Embassy is in the hospital having her baby RIGHT now! J Yay!

-Baby Jayden’s open-heart surgery went really well yesterday. He should be able to go home within the next two weeks. Very exciting! If you want to read updates from Jordan go here: jordanfleig.blogspot.com

Best moment this week: maternity photos with Cari Dugan. I cannot wait to see how they turned out. We ended up going to Tracy and Elizabeth’s house in Jordan and playing around their farm and with Elizabeth’s antiques. So. Much. Fun.

Baby Update

Almost 9 weeks left! Oh my.

Petal is now 16" long (holy crap - how in the world does she fit inside of me???) and weighs at least 3 lbs. She is bigger than a large sized head of cabbage. Her vision is continuing to develop this week. Although she can see (she can even see light THROUGH my stomach/skin/etc...), Petal will have 20/400 vision when she is first born. Her vision will continue to develop throughout her early months after birth until she reaches 20/20 vision.

Petal now not only flips but interacts with me ok – just let me believe that she is!!. If she kicks me in a certain spot, I rub her foot or leg or hand or whatever appendage she prefers to use at that moment to maul my insides gently prod for my attention. If I stop rubbing, she will once again kick/punch that same area until I rub my belly/her body as I had been. It’s an interesting and exciting cycle. Although, I’d much prefer to do this while holding her… therefore eliminating my bruised insides. Yesterday she was positioned properly (good job, Petal)! But today, I think she's back to being breech/transverse as she has been for the most of my pregnancy. Sigh... we can try again in a couple weeks Petal. After 36 weeks is when position truly matters. I can tell you, her little head on my bladder was a WHOLE different world yesterday. I pee'd more than I have in my entire life ok, not really - but close enough!! 5 times during the night. Sick, isn’t it? I've perfected the "sleep-walk pee" where I don't even open my eyes.

Doctor visits every two weeks are useless BORING. Let me tell you. Measuring my belly, weighing me in and checking my blood pressure feels like a waste of time repetitive at this point. I’m so ready for it a break from it, or for Petal to be here already. I take that back – I’m SO not ready for Petal to be here. Too much to do still!

Jayden Daniel Fleig!

Thanks for all the prayer for Rachel and Jordan's baby. Jayden Daniel Fleig was born Friday night around 10:30 PM. The valve in his heart that wasn't working properly... is working! Praise God! He will have a procedure tomorrow morning (similar to an angio-plasty) to send a camera through his heart to ensure it is all a-ok! Jordan and Rachel are doing great and the baby is beautiful!

Thank you again for your prayers!

Baby Mobile

I finally got the baby mobile made! Here are the different parts I used to make the mobile.

Step 1. Buy mini fabric flowers from Michaels (on sale for $.49 ea!)

Step 2. Remove flowers and leaves.Step 3. Hang flowers from hanging picture mobile and glue leaves

randomly on the mobile (bought from Target.com)

Finished product! It's hard to see in the light, maybe I'll try a picture in the daylight tomorrow...

Jeremy said to me (when it was complete). “That looks awesome, but it’s going to look really stupid if we have a boy.” Thanks Love.
